South Hinksey is a village approximately one and a half miles southwest of the centre of Oxford with the parish church of St Laurence with parts dating from the 13th Century. Pedestrian and cycle access from the village to Oxford is via the Devil's Backbone, a historic raised pathway across the neighbouring plains that features in Matthew Arnold's poem The Scholar Gipsy. The property is accessed via the A34 by car and is well placed for reaching the A420 and transport links to London, Newbury and Banbury. Rail links are available from Oxford to London Paddington and Oxford Parkway into London Marylebone.

In the owners’ words:
We moved to South Hinskey 18 years ago, attracted by the good local schools and the proximity to Oxford. We were also looking for a house big enough to fill our growing family. We have since found all that we wanted and more.

South Hinksey is a lovely, warm, welcoming community. There is a strong bond between the different blends of families, yet it’s quite easy to opt out of the socializing. South Hinksey is well served by schools, shops, surgeries, parks, clubs, take away, farmers markets and cafes in Botley, Kennington and Hinksey park. There is an open-air swimming pool, tennis courts and parks in Hinksey park. And rugby and tennis clubs in North Hinksey which is 2 miles away. Oxford city centre is 25 minutes’ walk away. We literally have everything that we need on our doorstep.

We’ve turned the house into a beautiful family home. The gardens at the back and the front have all been professionally laid out to flower at different times of the year, providing what looks like fireworks from the large windows which show that garden from literally every room in the house. The layout of the house works perfectly, with the ‘visitor’ areas being isolated from the sleeping quarters, providing the privacy that we’ve enjoyed. The large spacious kitchen diner is the centre point in the house; it’s where we all gather to share stories of our days. And we’ve been grateful for the heated swimming pool which has been ‘open’ from April to September, heated by a heat pump to minimize costs and sourced from solar panels on the roof, with any excess energy being stored in the recently installed Tesla batteries. And to keep up with the times, we have electric charging points on the drive to charge up to two cars at a time. We have loved living here and hope that the house brings the same joy to the next families.
